Beautiful Artisan loaves are all well and good, but sometimes you just want a sandwich. This soft white bread is perfect for that.
I know, you have 4 bags of flour, and aren’t exactly sure what your end plan was. We tackled an easy artisan loaf last week. Now it’s time to make some simple sandwiches. The kids will love this one. And really, it’s pretty easy, and follows almost the same instructions as the Artisan Loaf.
🥖 Ingredients for the Soft White Bread
It really isn’t complicated at all.
- 1 1/2 cups warm water
- 1/4 cup sour cream
- 1 tbsp active dry yeast
- 3 1/4 cups bread flour (All purpose will work)
- 2 tsp course salt
🔪 Directions
- In a large heavy bowl, mix water, yeast and 1/4 cup flour. Let proof for 5 minutes.
- Add sour cream, remainder of flour, and salt, stir with a sturdy spoon until well mixed.
- knead the dough just until it forms a cohesive ball in the bowl, maybe 60 seconds.
- Cover loosely and let rise for 2 hours.
- Grease the inside of a 5 x 9″ bread pan.
- With well dusted (in flour) hands, remove the dough from the bowl and shape it into an elongated cylinder.
- Place dough in bread pan. Let rise 30 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 450.
- Slash the top of the dough with a sharp knife, and slide into center oven rack.
- Bake for 35 minutes.
- Remove from oven, and place bread on a wire rack to cool.
