These Maple Pork Chops are just the thing to level up your dinner game. Quick, simple, and big on flavor, they’ll have your family eager for more.
Maple Pork Chops are an Easy Weeknight Dinner
I like easy. Quick is also a bonus. Throw in inexpensive and you have my attention. Pork chops are all of these things. Yes, you can buy pork chops in whatever price range you are looking for, up to heritage tomahawk chops at over $10/pound. But most of the time, you can find them on sale. Typically I spend less than $2/pound on pork, and buy big packages when sales come up. It is great to add variety to our dinners, and is utter simplicity to cook up. These Maple Pork Chops have just the right balance of sweet and savory to satisfy any pallet, young or old. What makes them the best maple pork chops you can make? Simplicity. You probably have all the ingredients you need already (and regular sugar works, so don’t sweat the maple sugar). You’re only going to dirty one pan, and for less than $10 (including some basic sides like potatoes and salad) you’ve provided a meal that your family won’t associate with budget cooking.
What do you need for Maple Pork Chops?
There really aren’t a lot of ingredients in this recipe.
- Pork Chops (4)
- Apples (2) sliced
- Maple Syrup (4 Tbsp)
- Apple Cider Vinegar (4 Tbsp)
- Mustard (2 Tbsp)
- Seasoning mix (6 Tbsp)
The Seasoning blend that I use is about as simple as they come. Equal parts salt, garlic powder, and sugar. My uncle calls it “magic” and puts it on all of his meat cuts at some point during the cooking process. For this particular recipe I used maple sugar instead of cane sugar, keeping with the maple pork chops motif.
Start off seasoning the pork
Pat your pork chops dry with a paper towel and liberally season both sides. Yes, you need to touch the meat. No, it is not going to make you instantly ill. Fill a basin with some soapy water and have a towel handy so that you can continue to get seasoning without making it clump between handlings though. And only use about half of the mixture. You’re going to need to lightly season the pork twice more.
I cook everything in Cast Iron
That being said, use whatever pan you have that is oven safe. It is going to go right in the 350-degree oven with the pork chops. And start heating that pan up over med-high heat. You want it hot enough so that the pork sizzles and the sugar carmelizes when it touches the pan.
Sear the pork chops, 2-3 minutes, on both sides, top with sliced apples, and slide your pan into the oven. You’ve got about 10 minutes to prep the glaze.
Get that Maple Magic Ready
This part is pretty simple. Whisk your maple syrup, vinegar, and mustard together with a fork. After the pork has baked for 10 minutes, pour this mixture over the top of everything, and return to the oven for 10 minutes more.
Your Maple Pork Chops are Done.
Seriously. That is all it takes. Serve them up with whatever sides you can whip up in about 20 minutes, and you have a feast fit for Tuesday night. Check out the full recipe below for more detailed instructions.
