This Homemade Eggnog recipe is easy, doesn’t take any crazy ingredients, and will leave your holiday guests amazed. This is the best eggnog, hands down.
I am the youngest in my family. My mother was the youngest, and had me in her 30s. So, other than my sister, my closest relative in my generation is 12 years older than me. The oldest has a son that is only 2 years younger than me. So as far as holidays, hosting, and duties went, I got off pretty light. One thing I do make every Christmas Eve that I am able to get home for is Eggnog. This duty belonged to my father before my parents divorced, and I picked up the responsibility before I started high school.
What is so special about this eggnog?
It is that good. It is also insanely easy. The best description is “drinking a cloud.” So light and fluffy, none of the thick viscousness that comes in the carton.
What do you need to make the best eggnog ever?
Not much.
- 1 dozen eggs
- 1 cup of sugar
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 quart of heavy cream
- 1 tbsp vanilla
- 1 tsp each of nutmeg and cinnamon
- 1 quart of milk or 1 pint milk/1 pint booze of your choice
How Do we turn this into a delicious drink?
Glad you asked.
Step 1: Separate your egg yolks, set the whites aside (in the fridge) for now.
Step 2: Combine yolks and sugar, stirring until the mixture is a lemon yellow color. Refrigerate at least 1 hour.
Step 3: In your stand mixer, beat the whites and salt into a stiff meringue. Set aside.
Step 4: In your stand mixer, beat the cream and vanilla together until it forms stiff peaks.
Step 5: Blend together cream and yolk mixture, adding meringue in slowly so that it incorporates fully. Add nutmeg and cinnamon.
Step 6: Transfer your eggnog base into a large punch bowl and add the milk and/or alcohol. Whisk together thoroughly. Dust with Nutmeg and Cinnamon. Serve cold.

- 1 tbsp vanilla
- 1 tsp each of nutmeg and cinnamon
- 1 pint skim milk
- 1 cup dark rum
- 1 cup Brandy
Instructions
- Separate your egg yolks, set the whites aside (in the fridge) for now.
- Combine yolks and sugar, stirring until the mixture is a lemon yellow color. Refrigerate at least 1 hour.
- In your stand mixer, beat the whites and salt into a stiff meringue. Set aside.
- In your stand mixer, beat the cream and vanilla together until it forms stiff peaks.
- Blend together cream and yolk mixture, adding meringue in slowly so that it incorporates fully. Add nutmeg and cinnamon.
- Transfer your eggnog base into a large punch bowl and add the milk and/or alcohol. Whisk together thoroughly. Dust with Nutmeg and Cinnamon. Serve cold.
Notes
To keep your eggnog cold, place punch bowl into another larger bowl filled with ice.
Leave the whisk by the bowl, the eggnog will separate as it sits. This is in no way a problem, just stir it back up.
