What happens when our favorite taco and tequila holiday crosses paths with burger month? This. Yup, I went there.
This epic burger is part of a fan-frickin-tastic month-long event hosted by Girl Carnivore, but opinions are always my own!
If you haven’t heard, May is National Burger Month. A huge group of bloggers are getting together to bring you the best in out of this world burgers to feast on. There is also a giveaway involved, and it is pretty epic. So check out this Taco Burger, and pop over to some of the other sites to see what they have cooking. Stay-Home & Grill-Out. It’s on.
Ingredients for the Taco Burger
Tortilla Burger Buns
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 2/3 cup milk
- 2 Tbsp vegetable oil
Taco Burger Patties
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 cup black beans
- 3 Tbsp taco seasoning
- 4 slices of cheddar cheese
- 1 avocado
- 4 Tbsp Mayo
- 1 tsp taco sauce
Instructions
For the Tortillas
- In a large bowl, stir together the dry ingredients.
- Combine the milk and oil in a small bowl or measuring cup.
- slowly add the wet ingredients to the dry while stirring. A shaggy dough should form.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead into a smooth dough, re-flouring the surface as necessary.
- Once the dough is smooth, and no longer sticky, divide into 8 parts.
- Form The small pieces of dough into balls, and cover loosely with plastic. Let rest 30 minutes.
- Heat a cast iron skillet or griddle over med-high heat
- on a lightly floured surface, Roll the dough out into a 4″ round. It should be roughly 1/4″ thick.
- Cook in the dry skillet or griddle approximately 1 minute per side, until small brown spots appear.
- repeat for remaining dough balls.
For the Burgers
- Combine the beef, beans and taco seasoning in a large bowl and mix well.
- Form into four patties, pressing a dimple into the center.
- Grill to your preference, topping with cheese when almost done.
- mix the mayo and taco sauce together in a small bowl.
- Assemble burgers on tortillas, topping with avocado and taco/mayo sauce.
