Waffles are pretty magic in the morning. This recipe is quick, easy, and sure to bring smiles to your table.
My kids love anything for breakfast that involves maple syrup. I am pretty sure that if I gave them a piece of toast and told them that they could dunk it in a saucer of sweet sticky vaguely maple flavored sugar water, they would be happy.
Waffles are an Easy way to make your morning magic
I used to have a mental block about making waffles. It seemed like it was a ton of work and extra effort in the morning. I am not entirely sure why that was. Waffles are easy. And, generally less of a mess than pancakes.
This recipe has it’s origins on a scrap of paper that I am 60% sure was ripped out of the Better Homes and Garden’s cookbook, but I may be mistaken there. It was very similar to a pancake recipe that was printed on the other side, and over the years I have forgotten exactly what the differences were. In all seriousness, this is also my pancake recipe most of the time. Though I do tend to have creative tendencies with those and add all sorts of things into the mix. I try not to take too many liberties with the waffles though. A couple batches that don’t want to pop out of the waffle iron, and you get a little bit gun-shy.
Easy Waffle Ratio
You can scale this recipe up or down depending on how many people you are feeding. The recipe I have below is perfect for a family of four, but just follow this basic ratio and you will be in good shape no matter how many you are serving. For each cup of flour, add 3 servings:
– 1 Flour (c), milk (c), egg
– 1 tsp Baking powder : 6 tsp sugar & oil
This recipe works well in traditional waffle makers, and the Belgian style. I highly recommend keeping them warm in the oven while you work your way through the batter. Having kids ask for seconds before mine even came out of the waffle iron may be part of the reason I avoided making them for so long.
This recipe is pretty easy. If you want to pull out the stops and make something everyone will remember, try this Banana Bread Pudding. It is one of my favorites.
